December 1, 2020 is Giving Tuesday - A global celebration of giving
Tuesday, December 1, 2020 is Giving Tuesday!
This a global day of giving where people around the world will come together in unity, kindness and generosity to give their time, money, goods and advocacy to support communities, non-profit organizations and causes.
The Hussein Scholarship Fund is pleased to join the global community in celebrating this global day of giving. We, like many organizations, are increasing our efforts to support struggling families who are affected by COVID-19 and institutional racism.
About:
Founded in 2015, Dr. Carlessia Hussein Scholarship Fund has a clear mission -- "To increase the number of middle school minority and low income boys who succeed in life by helping those with low grades become achievers."
To achieve this mission, the Fund provides scholarships for summer enrichment programs for minority and low income middle school boys in the Howard County Public School System. The Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Howard County. The summer enrichment programs help middle school boys continue learning and receive enrichment experiences during the summer months. This year 2020, we received and approved 58 scholarship applications for middle school boys to attend virtual summer programs. This brings the total number of scholarships awarded in the 5 years since the inception of the scholarship program to 155 awards.
Needs:
At this time of two pandemics: COVID-19 and the controversial revisiting of racial oppression, young men of color experience trauma and uncertainty about their place in society. Educational and enrichment experiences are needed now more than ever to encourage and build self-esteem with which to move forward in life. You can help! With your donation, we will be able to provide scholarships for summer 2021 enrichment programs to middle school minority and low income boys in the Howard County Public School System.
