Chi Eta Phi Sorority Recognizes Dr. Hussein with Humanitarian Award at 66th Boulé on July 16, 2021

Dr. Carlessia Hussein was awarded the Humanitarian Award by the Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated during it 66th Boulé Awards Banquet held on July 16th, 2021. With its theme, “Celebration of the Year of the Nurse 2020,” the Sorority recognized Dr. Hussein for her dedicated service for humanity with 50+ years in public health, working to reduce disparities and improve health equity for minority populations . She was recognized also for her continued work establishing and running the Dr. Carlessia Hussein Scholarship Fund which supports providing summer enrichment activities to minority middle school boys who make low grades and who live in income constrained families. From 2016 to date, a total of 194 middle school boys have received scholarships.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority is a professional organization of registered nurses and nursing students. The Sorority was organized in 1932 at Freedman’s Hospital School of Nursing in Washington D.C., Dr. Hussein’s Alma Matter. The chapters are located throughout the United States, District of Columbia and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Island. The Sorority serves two specific purposes: (1) elevating the plane of nursing and (2) increasing interest in the field of nursing. Guided by the motto “Service for Humanity,” the Sorority has programs focusing on health promotion/disease prevention, leadership development, mentoring, recruitment, retention and scholarship.
